Terragen, initially released in 2000, stands as one of the pioneer professional landscape creation tools. It has been utilized in VFX studios such as ILM, Digital Domain, and MPC. Apart from terrain, it allows the generation of water elements, atmospheric and weather effects, clouds, skies, and the creation and visualization of extremely vast environments. The software is regularly updated, typically with one major update per year. In the Terragen 4.7 update, the process for exporting clouds and terrains has been optimized.

The VDB exporter for clouds now leaves grid points empty when the cloud density value is zero, reducing file sizes. Users can also export parts of the cloud with different resolutions by isolating them using the new Bounding Box object. In the Micro Exporter for terrain export, duplicated vertices, normals, faces, and UVs are now merged, resulting in cleaner exported geometry suitable for multi-threaded renders.

Improved node graph functionality: inactive connections, where the checkbox of the respective parameter is unchecked, are now drawn with a lighter line, enhancing readability. Additionally, there is now an option to export images in the .hdr format.

Terragen 4.7 is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. For details regarding the new pricing structure, please visit the official website.
