Despite the recent rise of tools like Affinity, PhotoLine remains a versatile alternative to Photoshop, supporting 32-bit linear workflow for raster images along with vector design and layout capabilities.
In PhotoLine 24.0, the layer workflow has been redesigned. It introduces the ability to save the layer structure of a document, including layer visibility and blending modes, as layer compositions. Layer compositions can be used as presets for future documents or for comparing document variations.
In terms of workflow improvements, PhotoLine 24.0 introduces the ability to use the "Layer" tool to move or copy the content of a selection without creating a new layer, as well as font searching within the layer list. Additionally, 16-bit and 32-bit images can now be used as layer masks and clipping layers with full bit depth.
Beyond the layer system, there are new features such as support for character formatting in text. Several brush tools have been updated, including transparency support in the "Replace Color" brush and a new "Replace" mode in the "Clone" brush.
User interface enhancements include automatic docking and window arrangement when detaching and moving document windows, as well as the Windows document window appearance being aligned with other UI elements.
Changes in pipeline integration include support for the .xcf format used by the open-source image editor GIMP, as well as improved support for PDF, SVG, and TIFF formats.
PhotoLine 24.0 is now available for Windows 7 and above, as well as macOS 10.13 and above. The software is priced at 79 euros, which is 20 euros higher than the cost of PhotoLine 23.5.
