Recording #1 Yeniseisk-15 July 1983 --------- The policy of détente had come to an end. The Afghan war and a number of other events led to a new aggravation of relations between the USSR and NATO. The development of means of air attack led to improvements in missile defense systems. The Soviet Union developed the second generation of over-the-horizon radar stations for detecting ballistic missile launches. New radars of the Daryal type began to be erected throughout the country. In the Krasnoyarsk region in the strictest secrecy began construction of one of these radars - "Yeniseysk-15". But the construction still failed to hide it from the U.S. intelligence services.
