Concept project of reconstruction of the Central Stadium of Shymkent in Kazakhstan. The stadium was built under the USSR, in the 60s, since then, major repairs have never been carried out, the structure is morally outdated. The reconstruction project includes the unification of a single sports cluster: - reconstruction of the stadium. 20,000 seats - construction of a universal arena for 5,000 seats - construction of a large outdoor swimming pool. The stadium area is 22,000 m2. The arena area is 20,000 m2. I offered the construction company and the city three options for the concept: 1. The concept is in an oriental, traditional style. Shymkent is a city where traditions and oriental culture are very reverent. The local architectural style is Oriental style. 2. A concept that mimics the local landscape. The structure repeats the shapes of steppe hills from human height. The space under the canopy is angular to accommodate active sports areas under it: street workout, skate park, street basketball courts, etc. 3. A concept in a modern style. Just a practical option. The roof of the stadium was made at an angle (one side is larger than the other), because the western stand is higher than the eastern one.
