SpeedTree is a program that was released over two decades ago and is currently owned by Unity. It is used to create textured and wind-animated 3D trees for both real-time and offline use, employing a combination of procedural generation and manual editing.
Over the years, several different editions of the software have been released, and currently, it is available as SpeedTree Cinema, designed for visual effects and full-length animation, as well as SpeedTree Games.
Both versions include the SpeedTree Modeler, the core program for creating vegetation, and the SpeedTree Library, which provides a collection of ready-to-use 3D plants. Additionally, the SpeedTree Games version includes the SpeedTree SDK.
Among other new features, one notable addition is Projectors, a new system for adding procedural details to models.
Projectors utilize ray tracing to create a distribution scheme, projecting light rays onto the scene and generating details wherever the rays hit a surface.
In the context of trees, this enables the creation of natural directional effects, such as moss growing only on one side of the trunk or snow settling on the branches from above.
It can also be used for scattering objects on the ground around a tree, as demonstrated in the video above.
Other changes include the support for height maps in Leaf, Batched leaf, and Frond generators. IDV claims that this update not only allows adding details to tree parts but also "enables you to identify subsections on the grid using the Cutout editor, eliminating the need for external modeling software."
Drawing tools have also been enhanced with new options, including brush size, falloff, and opacity field.
SpeedTree Cinema 9.5 and SpeedTree Games 9.5 are available for Windows 7 and above, CentOS 7, Ubuntu 18.04/20.04 Linux, and macOS 10.13 and above.
The software is only available through subscription. The cost of an Indie subscription, for users with an income of less than $100,000 per year, is $19 per month or $199 per year.
The cost of a Professional subscription, for users with revenue of less than $1 million per year, is $499 per year for a node-locked license or $899 per year for a floating license.
Синема нельзя для игр, и наоборот :)
А ещё добрые люди предлагают вариант "Modeler" v9.5.0... 😀 Короче, имеются: Cinema / Games / Modeler - who is кто?
