GAZ-233014 "Tiger" - Russian multi-purpose off-road vehicle, armored car, army off-road vehicle. The vehicle is designed for reconnaissance, convoy escort and protection, patrol and fire support of troops.
Initially, this car was developed for one of the companies from the United Arab Emirates, but without specifying the reasons, the Arab side refused the services of Russian designers and specialists when testing cars in the UAE, provided for by the contract, which was terminated. The cars and part of the design documentation remained with BJG, which, after finalizing the design of the machine, together with foreign specialists, began production of identical Nimr (tiger) armored vehicles in various versions in June 2005.
So GAZ has a reserve — a developed car. By the decision of the director of GAZ in 2002, three cars were assembled in different designs (with an armored three—door body, an unarmored two-door body with an awning body and an unarmored four-door body with an awning body) of the second series with a different appearance and interior. It was them called GAZ-2975 "Tiger" that was presented at the MIMS-2002.
After two prototypes of the car were put into trial operation at the end of the same year, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation became interested in the car and became the customer of the Tigers. Serial production of Tiger cars was organized at the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant (AMZ) in 2005, where it is carried out to this day. The Gorky Automobile Plant produced Tiger cars until March 2001.
The tiger weighs 7 tons compared to 14 tons for the BMP-2. Armored vehicles are equipped with air conditioning, an anti-lock system, automatic wheel blowing, and automatic transmission installation is possible. The SUV has many prospects in both the military and civilian markets. The Tiger also weighs significantly less than the BTR-80/A. Armament of the armored car (AGS, Cord, PKM) is also quite powerful. A BRSHM version with a 30 mm automatic cannon in a remote module has been developed, the Gibka-S air defense system with Verba short-range anti-aircraft missiles. There is also an anti-tank variant, armed with the Kornet ATGM.
The only drawback is the inability to swim. However, it must be borne in mind that armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles were almost never transported in combat conditions. The afloat speed, for example, for the BMP-2 is 7 km/ h, for the BMP-3 — 10 km/ h, which makes them excellent targets, and also does not allow increasing reservations in the future. In addition, infantry fighting vehicles may experience difficulties in strong currents, up to the complete impossibility of crossing.
