Hi everyone! I’m excited to share my latest project—a stylized 3D model of Frodo Baggins. This was a full-cycle production, where my primary focus was creating a character that is completely Animation-Ready. For this project, I chose to portray Frodo Baggins at the very beginning of his story—long before the burden of the One Ring fell upon him. This is the image of a young, carefree hobbit, inspired by Bilbo’s memoirs and dreaming of adventures he has only ever read about. My goal was to capture that sense of innocence, curiosity, and the cozy, peaceful atmosphere of Hobbiton.
Project Workflow:
Concept Art: Original design developed in Photoshop, focusing on stylized proportions and appeal.
Sculpting & Modeling: Created in Blender, following the comprehensive "Stylized Character Workflow" guide by Julien Kaspar.
Retopology: Hand-retopologized to ensure clean edge loops and optimal deformation during animation.
Texturing: PBR texturing in Adobe Substance 3D Painter.
Rigging: Set up using the CloudRig addon, based on the "Live Character Rigging" masterclass by Demeter Dzadik (Blender Studio). The rig includes full facial bones and custom drivers.
Animation: Movement tests and locomotion cycles performed to verify skin weights and rig flexibility.
The clothing design was deliberately simplified and made tight-fitting in order to focus on the purity of the rig's deformations and the readability of the silhouette during animation.
The goal of this project was to deep-dive into the technical side of character creation—from initial sculpt to complex rig setup.
