Description:
Asterostoma palpator
Etymology: Derived from Greek aster (star) + stoma (mouth) and Latin palpare (to touch/feel). Literally: "The Feeling Star-Mouth."
Classification: Troglobiotic Collective Apex Predator.
Sensory System: The main body exhibits secondary anophthalmia (blindness). Navigation is conducted via frontal pedipalps with a high density of mechanoreceptors to "read" surface textures.
Visual Organ: A vestigial cephalic capsule located on a dorsal (back) appendage. Photo-receptors inside the "star-mouth" react exclusively to the bioluminescence or thermal signatures of prey.
Communication: Utilizes posterior limbs for stridulation (producing sharp clicking sounds). These signals serve both for primitive echolocation and social coordination during a pack hunt.
Gameplay Mechanics: Players must use "cold" light sources and avoid physical contact with the creature’s feelers to prevent triggering a stridulation call that summons the swarm.
