The GP-5 is one of the most recognizable gas masks in the world, its appearance forever tied to the atmosphere of post-apocalyptic worlds and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. This reputation is well deserved - it is one of the most widely produced gas masks in history, with numerous modifications used extensively in both military and civilian sectors. The model was originally created as part of a modeling challenge on the TWR Discord server. For artists specializing in weapons, such a project was a true challenge - it’s not often that you have to sculpt folds, work with fabric, and compose a scene for this kind of gear. However, overcoming such challenges is the only path to progress. This project became an invaluable practice for me - not only in modeling, but also in texturing and rendering. The model is optimized for real-time use. Modeling and sculpting were done in Blender, UV unwrapping in RizomUV, baking and rendering in Marmoset Toolbag, and texturing in Substance Painter. During texturing and rendering, I aimed to convey a post-apocalyptic mood inspired by legendary projects like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Metro, and Fallout.
