Alpha - the first habitable planet outside the solar system to be colonized by the human race. Subsequently, it became the center of intergalactic trade, resource extraction, and robbery. A harsh desert habitat did not allow civilization to adapt for many centuries. But the extraction of unique resources found on Alpha led to the modernization of technology and the creation of clean energy reactors which made it possible to survive in the cold of the dark side of the planet. People rarely went into the light, as ruthless creatures dwelled there, only waiting to feast on humans' blood.
