Synthesia generates motion graphics from your script for free

Interesting From The Web

Video platform Synthesia has opened up its animated graphics generator. It builds animation from the scene script, from a text description or from a reference image. The tool is in beta, free and, according to the company's help center, does not consume credits. For teams that put out training videos, product explainers and internal presentations, this means a standard timeline, funnel or checklist can be assembled without a motion designer.

The platform is used by more than 2 million people and makes videos with AI avatars in over 140 languages. Animated graphics fit into the same process: they are synced with the script and sit in the scene next to the avatar, the voiceover and the subtitles.

The script becomes a storyboard

The main workflow looks like this. The user opens a scene in Synthesia Editor, writes the text for it and picks Motion Graphics in the top bar. From there, there are two paths.

  • Template. The library holds 16 presets: timelines, funnels, checklists, diagrams and others. You can pick the template yourself or leave the choice to the AI. The scene text defines the content of the animation.
  • Prompt. The graphic can be described in plain English, or you can upload a reference. The company suggests turning sketches, schemes and data visualizations into finished animation this way.

In both cases you choose the asset size: the full canvas (Full) or half of it (Half). The finished graphic sits on the canvas like a regular media element, and sound effects are added to it automatically. A single generation is limited to 30 seconds, so the help docs advise splitting a long scene into several in advance.

The most practical detail concerns edits. If a typo turns up in a caption after generation, or a figure in the quarterly report changes, the text inside the graphic is fixed right in the editor, without regenerating it. To change the overall look, the graphic has to be regenerated: refine the prompt, switch the style or apply the Brand Kit.

Styles shared with b-roll, branding for Enterprise only

The look is set by presets. The documentation names Painter 2D, Soft 3D, Glossy 3D, Collage, Comics, and the help center adds Illustrated. The same styles are used when generating b-roll, so the avatar, the animation and the cutaways in a single video can keep a consistent manner.

For corporate customers there is a Brand Kit with the company's colors, fonts and visual style. Synthesia describes it like this:

“Upload your Brand Kit (colors, fonts and visual style) once, and Synthesia will automatically apply it to every templated motion graphic you create.”

There are two limitations here. The Brand Kit only works on Enterprise plans. On top of that, automatic application covers templated graphics only. For animation created from a prompt or a reference, the company promises to add brand styling through the description later.

Where else the generator lives

Besides the editor, the graphic can be made as a separate asset in AI Playground, and the video built around it afterwards. The result is exported to mp4 as a standalone file and used anywhere after that: on social networks, in presentations or in learning materials.

For the feature to appear, it has to be switched on with the Motion graphics toggle in the workspace settings (the steps are described in the Synthesia help center). The documentation states outright that the beta's functionality and interface may still change.

Generation runs on Synthesia's own video rendering engine. In a blog post dated October 9, 2026, the company's chief technology officer Peter Hill wrote that this engine has been serving animated graphics on the platform since June. Syren is built on it too — an AI-agent tool that assembles a whole video with graphics, avatars, voiceover and music from a single prompt.

Who will find this useful and where the limits are

Judging by how the generator is built, it is aimed first of all at learning specialists, marketers and internal communications. Templated infographics based on the script text cover routine tasks: onboarding, explaining a process, quarterly results. A professional animator will probably get little out of the tool. Only text is editable: the help center states outright that colors, fonts and text size cannot be changed, and that manually adjusting layout, animation and individual elements is not yet possible. Output with a transparent background or in layers for assembly in After Effects or Premiere is not mentioned in the materials; only mp4 is stated.

There are caveats about it being free. Generation itself spends no credits. But on the free Basic plan videos come out with a Synthesia watermark, while downloading content and removing the logo are listed on the pricing page among the capabilities of the Starter plan: $19 a month, the first month for $9. Pro costs $89, the first month $49. The company does not say how the terms will change once the beta is over. Brand styling remains an Enterprise capability. The upshot is that anyone can try the generator, but it is mainly large customers who will be able to build it into a branded pipeline.

Why is Synthesia handing out the generator for free: a fight for corporate clients, pressure from competitors, collecting data for training?
