Anderson Rohr has released a free mocap animation pack for fitness and workouts
3D artist Anderson Rohr has posted a new free set of mocap animations from the series he has been releasing monthly over the course of a year. This installment is devoted to fitness and workouts: functional training, stretching, strength exercises and gym movements — 15 minutes and 6 seconds of captured material in total.
The author describes the set as ready to use in game development, cinematics, animation and other projects. Its subject matter covers a niche for which small teams usually have neither a shooting day nor the budget: sports simulators, fitness apps, gym scenes for narrative games and clips.
Earlier in the same series there were collections with football moves, crowd reactions and cleaning. Besides mocap, Rohr has shown an interactive MIDI controller built on the basis of a real Behringer UMX610 keyboard, and a breakdown of the new MetaHuman Creator plugin in Unreal Engine 5.6. The artist's workflow can be judged from the interview about his photogrammetry project Chocolate Panettone, where he explained how to work with the RealityScan app.

The set has been published on the author's page: Free mocap pack 06: Fitness and Workout. The terms of use and the contents of the files are listed there as well.
Why free mocap has become a regular format
Rohr's series looks like part of a broader shift. The basic free motion libraries the industry has used for years grow slowly, while makers of mocap equipment, on the contrary, willingly put animation sets into open access: for them it is a showcase of what the suit can do and a funnel toward paid products. The regular giveaway probably works both as the artist's own portfolio and as a demonstration of what inertial capture delivers in the hands of a single person.
For the market this means a gradual erosion of the lower price segment of asset stores: simple walk cycles, everyday actions and standard sports movements are harder to sell when comparable quality is given away for free. If the series lasts through the announced year, by its finale the community will have a thematically structured library assembled by a single author — something that scattered free giveaways usually lack.
