Despite the difference in version numbering, both updates are the first major public software updates since last year's Pulldownit 5.5 version and include most of the same features. Among them is the Fast Stacking & Deactivation collision solver, which, according to the developers, works "4 times faster" in scenes with hundreds or thousands of dynamic fragments.
In both updates, performance and workflow for simulating collisions between animated and dynamic objects have also been improved. For example, when a character breaks an object, a new animation speed multiplier parameter has been added to control the force of impact. Additionally, new options for animating the fracture multiplier allow for adjusting the strength of the effect throughout the simulation or disabling it at a specific frame.
When destructing geometry, the Jagginess deformer introduces a new Asymmetric Tessellation mode, which generates "almost 50% fewer polygons" than the existing Uniform Tessellation mode.
Additionally, a new feature has been introduced to apply jagginess to all fragments in the scene with a single click. Moreover, in the 3ds Max version, there is now the ability to animate wind and gravity attenuation for more precise control over how force fields affect the simulation.
In the Maya release, new features include the ability to create multiple fracture bodies from groups of objects and to create rigid body hierarchies by selecting a parent group.
Pulldownit is available for 3ds Max 2020 and above and Maya 2019 and above. The software is available by subscription only. Node-locked licenses now cost €290 per year, while floating licenses cost €360 per year, which is €10 more per year than in version 5.5.
