The complete absence of cheeks is a critical adaptation for chemoreception: open oral cavities allow the creature to permanently "taste" air currents. To protect the respiratory tract from debris and parasites in moments of rest, X2 uses a unique defense mechanism — its long, receptor-oversaturated tongue coils inside the larynx, completely sealing it and simultaneously reading chemical signals from the environment. The creature's vibrissae (whiskers) are integrated into the nervous system as high-frequency echolocators, catching even microscopic vibrations of the soil and air, which, in combination with gills, makes it the absolute dominant hunter both in water and in thick fog.
