Shrine of the Mountain Spirit
A shrine hidden among stone and water, where time barely moves.
Offerings are left, wishes are written on wooden plaques, in hope that the mountain spirit will listen. It is said that the wolf appears on nights when the mist hangs low — guiding the lost back home. But not all find their way back. And so, prayers here are not only for return, but for remembrance.
Rooted in Japanese folklore and mountain worship traditions. Inspired by:
• Mitsumine Shrine;
• Musashi Mitake Shrine;
• The legend of Yamato Takeru;
• The 1889 flood legend, where wolves howled to warn villagers of an approaching disaster.
"Where prayers are left for those who have not yet found their way home. Not all who wander return — but here, their names are still remembered".
