I present a large-scale case study on creating an urban environment for an open-world mobile project. In this work, I focus on the fundamental layer of the location—the technical skeleton and detailed road infrastructure.
My contribution to the project:
Technical Skeleton of the City: Complete design and modeling of the road network, junctions, and complex multi-level landscape. This is the foundation that determines the logic of movement and the performance of the entire scene.
Infrastructure Benchmarking: I developed and implemented a full set of environment assets (props):
Road Surface and Markings: High detail while strictly adhering to texture memory limits.
Lighting and Sign Systems: Modeling of traffic lights, poles, and road signs with an optimized low-poly mesh.
Pedestrian Areas: Sidewalks and curbs perfectly integrated into the landscape without artifacts (Z-fighting).
System Integration: I ensured seamless integration of architectural objects (buildings) with the infrastructure I created, overseeing the visual integrity and technical integrity of the entire location.
Technical Expertise (Mobile Optimization):
Draw Calls & Instancing: Maximum optimization of props (poles, signs) through atlases and instancing, which is critical for the mobile release.
LOD Strategy: Adjusting levels of detail for all infrastructure elements, ensuring stable FPS at long viewing distances.
Release Experience: The location is fully optimized, successfully integrated into the engine, and is already demonstrating commercial success in release.
Software:
Blender Unity
