This work was created as part of the mythofchristmas contest. When I heard about the theme, I just couldn't pass it up. One of my favorite themes is duality and you can see from my portfolio, I love dark fantasy aesthetics. I love it for its morally gray themes, ambiguity, and lack of black-and-white concepts. Frau Perchta is exactly that kind of character, so I wanted to make her. According to sources, Frau Perchta was not originally a negative character. She was the goddess of transitional states: between life and death, order and chaos, safety and danger. Her story is dark, her actions cruel but just. Later, under pressure from the church, out of fear of the goddess, humanity turned her into a monster and officially banned her cult.
