(3/3) Work with the Super Substance course by Video Smile.
I am glad to present the project that completes the Substance Painter study block of the course! In this work, I wanted to show everything that I had learned and take the task very seriously. The main idea of the work is to show how time affects objects in our lives. Once these cisterns were new, but this time is long gone, now they are abandoned and ordinary people have access to them. And these cisterns, like a time capsule, absorb the traces of people, the traces of our culture. Therefore, the cars are pasted with stickers, written with inscriptions and graffiti. During the work, this project became dear to me, and I decided to make it more personal by adding inscriptions and graffiti related to me personally. I suggest you explore the work in search of such graffiti! smiley
Of course, the environment also greatly affects objects, so the work is filled with traces of its influence: rust, tarnished paint, dust and much more.
From a technical point of view, this project was no less interesting than from an artistic. In the process, I consolidated my knowledge of texture creation in Substance Painter, the work has dozens of layers that are interconnected with each other. I often used Anchor Points, mixed masks, tried to diversify each layer, make it more alive and real, so the variability of textures and the balance of all elements of the work was my priority. I used Photoshop a lot to create alphas, inscriptions and graffiti. It was a new experience for me, but now I have a better understanding of how manually creating grunges and alphas can enhance the work and how powerful it is in creating textures.
Of course, I still have to grow and grow, but now this is my most complex and difficult work on creating textures. Scrolling down, you can look at the maps from Substance Painter and textures video showcase.
For the visualization, I chose a simple scene in a Marmoset Toolbag with studio HDRI, because I wanted to focus your attention on textures and tell a small story about the impact of time.
I hope I succeeded. Thanks for reading, share your opinion in the comments!
