Ubyr (Tat. ubyr, Bashk. ubyr, goes back to the common Turkic obur from the root op 'suck in', 'pull in') is a bloodthirsty demonic creature in the mythology of the Turkic peoples: Kazan Tatars, Tatars-Mishars, West Siberian Tatars (also uvyr, myatskai) and Bashkirs (some groups also have myasekay).
