Stanford University professors J.W. Pearson

February 23, 2020
Dear colleagues! All of you, of course, remember that day a year and a half ago, when all the news agencies reported a strange phenomenon, accidentally discovered in the mountains of Scotland.
A group of tourists walking their route in a deserted area, not far from the Glen-Mor valley, was awakened at about two in the morning by strange, unlike anything that came from a gorge located about a kilometer from the parking lot. Moreover, tourists were horrified to see incomprehensible huge shadows, similar to ghosts, the true dimensions of which were hidden by dense fog, however, quite natural for this area.
We must pay tribute to the courage and self-control of all the members of this tourist group: despite the night fear experienced by them, they were all united in the decision to establish the nature of the strange phenomenon. The Scottish mountains - a wild place and quite dangerous, so that tourists began exploring the gorge only in daylight. Inspection and further observations by a group of UNESCO experts on the study of anomalous natural phenomena that arrived after some time showed the following.
The gorge began from the mountain lake Loch Loki and went deep into the mountain range. According to preliminary estimates of scientists, the length of the gorge is about one hundred kilometers. For most of the day, the bottom of the gorge was covered with dense fog, which gave scientists a reason to call it the Gorge of White Spirits.
What is going on in the gorge? From time to time, with an unstated periodicity, creak-like sounds are heard from the fog, which turn into a thin high-pitched whistle. About a quarter of an hour after that, you can see silhouettes moving among the dense fog, the height of which is from thirty to eighty meters. Sometimes these "ghosts" appear in a group, sometimes one by one. The speed of their movement along the gorge is slightly faster than the speed of a person walking at a brisk pace. Sometimes these "ghosts" with their silhouette can remotely resemble a person, but most often they represent a complex shapeless spot, similar to the spots of the famous "Rorschach test".
In the far part of the gorge appears the so-called "portal" - a clearly visible luminous arc. We do not know what it is, and observer scientists called this phenomenon a portal for simplicity. Walking along the gorge, the silhouettes pass into the "portal" and disappear. After about three hours, sound reappears and everything repeats.
Unfortunately, the study of this phenomenon was not without sacrifice: when trying to trace the “ghosts” until the entrance to the “portal”, two scientists from the first group of observers disappeared. We don’t know what happened to them: they died or were thrown through the “portal” to another dimension ... By the way, another strangeness of the Gorge of White Spirits is the absolute impossibility of somehow fixing everything that happens there - photography and video shooting are completely impossible, only a swirling white fog is visible in the image. Fortunately, as part of the same tourist group that discovered this natural phenomenon, there was an amateur artist who was able to paint everything he saw that morning. At our disposal there are three sketches that I bring to your attention. Unfortunately, the fear he experienced that night had too strong an impact on the psyche of the artist ...
He is currently being held in a psychiatric clinic and communication with him is strictly prohibited.
Dear colleagues! Ten days later, together with my two colleagues, I went to the Gorge of White Spirits for a more detailed study of the amazing phenomenon. I hope that custom-made equipment for monitoring and video recording will allow us to come close to unraveling the secrets of the "portal" and familiarize the scientific community with the results of our research.
EDITOR'S NOTE:
A group of Professor J.W. Pearson observed the gorge for ten days, after which communication with it was interrupted. Rescuers arriving at the camp found only tents and abandoned equipment. No traces of people found. Currently, by decision of the British authorities, the gorge area was declared a closed zone and inaccessible to researchers.
