Grandfather of a flip-clock. Patended by an american inventor Eugene Fitch in 1903.
The unusual clock was named the Plato because the famous Greek philosopher Plato was said to have carried a lantern shaped like the clock while he was "looking for an honest man."
Plato clocks were popular. It had sold more than 40,000 by 1904.
