The release of SketchUp 2025.0

SoftSketchup

SketchUp 2025.0 enhances the visual realism of model previews in SketchUp by adding a new "Environments" panel for viewing models in an HDRI environment. The software comes with a set of pre-made HDR images that can be used as background environments and light sources, or users can import their own in HDR or EXR formats.
The update also adds support for PBR materials, both from imported glTF and USD files and from SketchUp's own material libraries, which have been converted to PBR materials. Older materials can be converted to PBR using an AI-based texture generation tool that creates maps for metalness, roughness, AO, and normals from diffuse textures.

Workflow improvements include an update to SketchUp's modeling toolset, as well as the rotation tool, arc tools, snapping, and the text tool. Other changes include automatic reminders to remove unused assets when saving files, and a new extension transfer module for updating extensions from the SketchUp Extension Warehouse to the current software version.
Integration with Trimble Connect, Trimble’s online collaboration platform, has also been enhanced with new built-in import, reload, or save capabilities for files in Trimble Connect. Architects benefit from updates to the SketchUp Revit importer, as well as improvements to IFC import and export.

Pro and Studio subscription users also receive updates for LayOut, the companion application for creating 2D documentation from 3D models. The move, rotate, and scale tools have been updated to work the same way as in SketchUp, while the join and split tools now work with both linear segments and shapes.

In addition, SketchUp models in LayOut can now display new PBR materials and HDRI environments. However, Style Builder, the application for creating hand-drawn line styles, which was previously included in the Pro subscription, is now discontinued.

SketchUp 2025.0 is compatible with Windows 10 and above, as well as macOS 12.0 and above. The software is available on a subscription basis, with the entry-level SketchUp Go subscription, which includes the browser version of the software and SketchUp for iPad, priced at $119 per year. SketchUp Pro and SketchUp Studio, which also include the desktop version and LayOut, are now priced at $349 per year and $749 per year, respectively.
