According to a brief post on LinkedIn, "After two decades of pioneering innovations in 3D, the difficult decision has been made to discontinue the development of Modo." It continues, expressing deep gratitude for the community’s loyalty and support: "The enthusiasm and involvement of the Modo community inspire us, and we thank you for being part of this journey."
According to Foundry, this decision will allow the company to "focus on its core offerings and invest in new solutions that address the growing needs of the media community and the entertainment industry."
As mentioned, Modo 17.1, which was expected to be released later this year, will be the final software update. Foundry states that they will "continue to explore and provide solutions to address issues" but do not expect any further releases, including maintenance updates. The official Modo forum will close in December 2024, and product downloads, along with access to online documentation and tutorial content, will be discontinued in November 2025.
Users with active subscriptions or maintenance contracts that were valid until the expiration of Foundry's perpetual licenses will continue to receive support until their current contract expires. Existing users will also be able to obtain extended 10-year licenses to continue using Modo. However, while Modo 17.1 "may" continue to work on future operating systems, Foundry will not release any fixes and recommends clients "transition to alternative 3D solutions as soon as possible."
