Autodesk has released 3ds Max 2025.2

For 3D modeling and design in 3ds Max 2025.2, the ability to import and export vector data in SVG format has been added. Vector drawings imported in SVG format are converted into splines in 3ds Max, preserving colors and strokes, and can be extruded using the extrusion modifier. The Data Transfer modifier, designed to automate complex modeling operations, introduces several new settings for controlling the selection of mesh parts. These include options for selecting UV seams or open edges.

Users of 3ds Max 2025.2 also have access to Flow Retopology for 3ds Max 1.0, a new plugin available separately from the main application. It offers functionality similar to existing Retopology tools and allows users to submit retopology tasks to run in the cloud rather than on their local machines. This prevents the 3ds Max interface from freezing when processing complex geometry, such as CAD models or raw scan data, and enables parallel processing of multiple retopology tasks. 3ds Max subscribers can process up to 30 tasks per month in the cloud, provided each task takes no longer than six hours. A version of the plugin for Maya 2025.1 was released in May.

The USD workflow plugin for 3ds Max has also been updated to version USD for 3ds Max 0.8. This update introduces the capability to use USD cameras within the 3ds Max viewport. For facial animation, users can now export progressive changes created with the Morpher modifier as USD morph targets. The update also includes new USB controllers and the ability to perform bulk selection of used morph targets in the USD browser. Additionally, Arnold rendering integration has been enhanced; Arnold for 3ds Max 5.7.2.1 now supports the new features of Arnold 7.3.2.

3ds Max 2025.2 is compatible with Windows 10 and later. The software is available only via subscription. The subscription costs $235 per month or $1,875 per year. In many countries, artists earning less than $100,000 annually and working on projects valued at less than $100,000 per year may qualify for an indie subscription priced at $305 per year.
