The developer of OctaneRender, Otoy, has joined the Blender Development Fund

Soft Blender

Although Otoy has not officially announced its funding, Blender Foundation Chairman Ton Roosendaal stated that the company became a member of the Blender Development Fund in December. Previously, Otoy was the main sponsor of last year's Blender Conference. Other current corporate patrons include tech giants AMD and Amazon, game developer and rendering software developer Epic Games, as well as the automotive company Volkswagen.

Otoy has been working with Blender users for over a decade, and in 2013, they released a plugin for integrating OctaneRender, their GPU-based renderer, with Blender. This made OctaneRender one of the first major commercial renderers to have official integration with Blender. Since 2019, Blender users have been able to freely use the renderer on a single GPU through OctaneRender Prime edition. Otoy also includes Blender integration in the free version of Octane X, a Metal-native macOS version of the renderer, which is also limited to a single GPU. Using OctaneRender on multiple GPUs or in network rendering requires a paid subscription.
