Nevercenter has released the Silo 2024.1 update, which introduces a new Auto UVs modifier. This modifier updates the object's UV layout in real-time, allowing users to work on the model and automatically adjust textures in Silo. Once the model's shape is finalized, users can bake the UVs and edit the UV layout in the usual manner.
Auto UVs supports five Silo texture projection modes - cubic, cylindrical, spherical, per-face, and planar regions - however, it currently does not support LSCM, making it suitable for relatively simple models.
Nevercenter describes it as useful for "buildings and mechanical objects that primarily need a simple repeating material tile applied logically". The Planar Regions projection has also been updated, introducing a new option to orient UVs to world coordinates, for example, to align textures vertically when the model changes.
As for Milo, the 2024.0 release on December 8 introduced a new gradient background that can be used to create sky backgrounds or more stylized effects. It is tied to the screen space, so it remains fixed when the model is rotated.
Silo and Milo are available for Windows 10 and macOS 12.0 and above. The cost of perpetual licenses for Silo is $159, including Milo. Updates are free for anyone who purchased the software in the past year.
