Pikimov - motion design in the browser

Soft

Pikimov is not Clément Cordier's first web application for CG. Currently, the author serves as the technical director of XR+, a company developing a tool of the same name for creating AR and VR content, having previously worked on software development for VJs. Clément Cordier states that "as a creative developer working daily on Linux, I often found myself needing an alternative to After Effects... and eventually, I created Pikimov." While there are several other free compositing and video editing tools available, Pikimov stands out as perhaps the only one whose user interface and workflow closely resemble those of After Effects. Although its feature set is minimal, like After Effects, it employs a layered workflow with support for masks, image adjustment and blurring filters, as well as keyframing. Additionally, it features chroma keying for green screen removal and the ability to import 3D models in the glTF binary format (.glb), although it currently does not support animated models.

It's worth noting that Pikimov has significant limitations: compositions are currently restricted to 100 seconds, the source material is limited to Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080px), and there's only one audio track available. However, future plans include implementing features such as a true 3D camera, GLSL shader editor, and support for 3D scans created using 3D Gaussian splatting. Additionally, the program is completely free, does not require registration on the website, and files are processed locally, without the need to upload data to a server.

Pikimov works in Chrome on Windows, Linux, or macOS, as well as in Edge on Windows. It does not support Firefox or Safari. Users can use it for free without the need for registration or logging in to the website.
