Tool box: Resources with free textures for 3D art
Although artists can create textures for their 3D art, sometimes you just need to save time, effort and download a texture or two from the Internet. We saved even more time on searching, having collected in one article excellent sites with free textures.
1. 3DXO
Including about 620 free textures available for download, the 3DXO collection is not the largest. However, a small amount is more than offset by ease of use. The site also has a small library of 3D models and photos.
2. 3D Textures
The collection of free 3D textures by artist João Paulo (João Paulo) is also not very large, but the proposed textures are of excellent quality and come with all the necessary maps.
3. Texturer
Texturer is a creative resource for 3D artists, designers, web designers and animators, providing a wide range of high-resolution textures. For ease of use, all textures are grouped into categories and subcategories, including everything from bricks, buildings and doors to animals, food and fabrics.
4. Texturemate
Texturemate is the online store of Bill Scott, an electrical engineer who also works as a designer. It’s here where Scott shares the textures, photos, brushes and other design resources that he creates. This site has a fantastic library of free textures; everything is organized into named folders, so you can easily find exactly what you need.
5. 3DTotal
3D Total is a great resource for CG artists, which includes training, a gallery of references, 3D resources, and a free texture library. The resource has not been updated since 2012, but how much does the texture change? At the moment there are 16,631 free royalty-free stock images in high resolution.
6. Environment-textures.com
There are no millions of free textures to download, but there is a wide selection of free options. If you are willing to pay a little, there are also a number of textures available at a very low price, often at a discount.
7. Textures.com
Textures.com offers a wide range of textures for 3D artwork, from animals to x-rays, which can be downloaded after registration. Textures can be viewed by type or by latest arrivals. There is even a small selection of tutorials on textures.
8. Arroway Textures
Arroway Textures offers a wide selection of excellent surfaces. This site sells individual and related textures, but you can download almost any texture at a lower resolution for free. However, they’re only for non-commercial use.
9. 3D Texture
3D Texture gallery is a showcase for libraries of textures and backgrounds. Available categories include fabric, glass and metal textures, sky textures and vehicles and cars. There is also a site user rating, which raises the most high-quality and best textures to the top of the search results.
10. TurboSquid
TurboSquid is not only an extensive library of professional-grade 3D models, but also contains “the largest collection of textures in the world,” according to the creators. Of course, the resource contains a lot of things, as artists from all over the world spread their textures and materials there.
