East Slavic mermaid par excellence - Women (drowned), Western - typically women with fish tails (anthropomorphic creatures, in appearance the heirs of Greek newts and sirens). In the English-speaking Slavic Bestiary for mermaids used the word rusalka, and for Western European - mermaid.
