In the whirlwind of samsara, living creatures, evolving or devolving, pass through various forms of life from microbes, insects, plants and even minerals - to the most elevated position of the deva-creator of the universe of Brahma. The position in which a living being finds itself in this life hierarchy depends on the qualities acquired in past incarnations, and is the fruit of karma that an individual is forced to reap.
