3D Modeler is an SDF-based tool that allows users to create both organic and hard-surface models in virtual reality or directly on the computer using a mouse and keyboard. The workflow combines elements of digital sculpting and procedural modeling, enabling users to sculpt forms from virtual clay and then combine or subtract them using logical operations. Substance 3D Modeler 1.9 itself represents a bug-fix release, although it includes some workflow improvements related to keyboard shortcuts.
The latest public beta version of Substance 3D Modeler 1.9.5 also significantly improves workflow: now additional tools are retained when switching between tools on the toolbar. Additionally, alpha texture loading and the behavior of the field of view slider have been improved.
The current beta version also includes experimental new artificial intelligence features introduced earlier this month, which have not yet made it into the stable release.
Substance 3D Modeler 1.9 is compatible with Windows 10 and above and these VR headsets. It is available through the Substance 3D Collection subscription, which costs $49.99 per month or $549.88 per year. Perpetual licenses are available through Steam and cost $149.99. The public beta version is available through the Creative Cloud desktop app for anyone with an Adobe ID.
