Nekki has released Cascadeur 2025.1 with an AI-powered frame interpolation feature
Cascadeur, introduced in 2019, offers artists an intuitive alternative to traditional animation software for games, motion graphics, and VFX. In addition to standard rigging and animation tools, its main advantage lies in a set of semi-automatic AI-powered features. The AutoPosing system enables users to quickly create key poses by adjusting just a few joints, while the software automatically positions the rest of the body. For jump animations, Cascadeur calculates physically accurate trajectories, and the AutoPhysics technology converts any keyframe animation into a physically realistic version. Completed animations can be exported in FBX, Collada, or USD formats for use in other 3D applications and game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
Cascadeur 2025.1 introduces an AI-powered Inbetweening tool that generates intermediate frames between two key poses. Unlike standard interpolation, it can produce fully looping motion cycles. The animation is calculated locally on the user's computer and supports intervals of any length, with one limitation — there must be no more than 88 frames between key poses and their neighboring keys.
The updates in Cascadeur 2025.1 have improved the core tools: the AutoPosing algorithm has been enhanced for greater stability and more natural behavior of spine and pelvis controllers. AutoPhysics now features a new Physics Corrector slider and improved logic for geometric constraints, ensuring better preservation of original poses. The Animation Unbaking tool now works with partially baked animations, making it easier to process mocap data. The Ragdoll system has also been refined, adding character interactions with objects and support for convex and kinematic colliders.
Cascadeur 2025.1 has expanded its import/export capabilities by adding support for the glTF/GLB format and improving FBX handling (including the ability to select the desired take during import). The interface now features a context menu for quick access to common operations, such as setting the pivot point. The software is compatible with Windows 10, Ubuntu 20.04, and macOS 13.3 or newer. The free version (for non-commercial use only) saves animations in a proprietary .casc format.
For users earning less than $100,000 per year, independent subscriptions are priced at $12 per month or $96 per year. Professional subscriptions cost $49 per month or $396 per year and include additional features. Both subscription plans are rental-based, with users eligible to obtain a perpetual license after one year.
