Cascadeur 2024.2 by Nekki Announced
Released in 2019, Cascadeur is designed as an alternative to traditional animation software for game development, motion graphics, and visual effects. While it includes standard tools for rigging, posing, and character animation, its unique advantage lies in a set of semi-automated AI-powered tools.
Key character poses can be quickly created using the auto-posing system, allowing users to adjust a few joints while Cascadeur handles the rest. It can also calculate accurate movement trajectories, and AutoPhysics converts keyframe animations into physically accurate versions. The final animations can be exported in formats like FBX, Collada, or USD for use in other DCC applications or game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
Among the new features in Cascadeur 2024.2 is the Separation Motion Physics tool, designed to make complex physics-driven movements more realistic by allowing users to adjust character poses, such as limb positioning or body bending. The AutoPhysics system will be updated to handle "pendulum-like animations," such as a gymnast swinging on a bar. The update also introduces support for facial blendshapes, enabling detailed facial expressions and morph targets for characters. Other planned enhancements include improved mocap cleanup tools and more intuitive auto-posing.
Cascadeur 2024.2 is set for release in August 2024. The current stable version, Cascadeur 2024.1, is compatible with Windows 10 and later, Ubuntu 20.04 and later Linux, and macOS 13.3 and later. The Indie subscription costs $99 per year for users earning less than $100,000 annually. Pro subscriptions are priced at $49 per month or $399 per year, offering advanced features. Both plans are rental-based, with a perpetual license available after one year. A free version is available but is limited to non-commercial use and saves animations in a proprietary .casc format, restricting their use in other DCC applications.
