D5 Render 2.8 Update by Dimension 5 Techs

First released in 2021, D5 Render is an increasingly powerful architectural renderer with plug-in support for various DCC and CAD applications. In addition to rendering scenes directly from connected DCC applications, users can import models in formats such as FBX, Alembic, or SKP, apply PBR materials, assign HDRI, lighting, and LUTs. Other features include object scattering and frame decoration tools, support for volumetric effects and particle-based effects, as well as crowd animation tools or vehicle path animations. The software supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing based on DXR on NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs and is capable of rendering 16K images and 4K videos.

D5 Render 2.8 continues to integrate new AI-driven features, following the path set by D5 Render 2.6. The new AI Enhancer adds details to rendered images, akin to how AI tools enhance missing details when scaling up renders. Users can apply details to the entire image or selected areas with three intensity levels. This feature is currently in beta and works with images from Render History up to 4K resolution. The AI tools introduced in D5 Render 2.7 have also been updated, and the text-to-3D conversion system has gained two new styles: PBR and Sculpture.

Changes in materials and lighting in D5 Render 2.8 include several enhancements. A new setting called "Affected by Light" has been introduced to recreate semi-transparent materials with internal illumination, as demonstrated above. The "Displacement" material template now supports opacity maps, useful for replicating textures like wire meshes and freely woven materials. The new Sunlight Caustics system simulates light patterns created by sunlight passing through transparent objects, such as bodies of water. Users can also adjust the hue and saturation of HDRI skies in D5 Render, and a new effect called Rainbow Flare creates circular flares around the sun.

Rendering updates in D5 Render 2.8 introduce several new features. A new option called AO Overlay in Preview controls the intensity of ambient occlusion in viewport renders. For high-quality video output, a Visibility switch has been added to manage the visibility of 3D models and layers, along with an animation controller for animated models. The D5 Scatter object scattering system has gained a new Cull Effect to exclude scattered objects from specific parts of the scene, as well as the ability to save scattering presets. Additionally, new live synchronization plugins have been introduced for Rhino and VectorWorks.

D5 Render 2.8 is available for Windows 10 and above. It requires a compatible graphics processor: Dimension 5 recommends NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, AMD Radeon RX 6400, or Intel Arc A3 and higher models. Integration plugins are available for various software including 3ds Max 2014-2016 and 2018, ArchiCAD 21, Blender 2.93, Cinema 4D R20, Revit 2018.3, Rhino 6.1, and SketchUp 2017 and newer versions.
The Community edition is free, while the Pro subscription, which includes advanced features, sequence rendering, and access to the full asset library, costs $38 per month or $360 annually.
