Boris FX has released SynthEyes 2024.5

SynthEyes, first released two decades ago and acquired by Boris FX in 2023, has become integral in VFX pipelines due to its blend of speed, accuracy, and affordability. This standalone 3D tracking application allows artists to extend 3D environments, place CG characters in scenes, and animate them using motion capture. It supports a wide range of shooting types, including stereoscopic and 360-degree virtual reality, and exports to most major 3D and compositing applications.

In SynthEyes 2024.5, the Flame exporter has been updated, simplifying the process of exchanging data with Autodesk's compositing and finishing software. Above videos demonstrate the workflow for transferring tracking and lens distortion data. When transferring data from SynthEyes to Flame, an Action node is automatically created, loading all necessary data. Commands like "Export Again" in SynthEyes and "Receive from SynthEyes" in Flame allow frames to be updated in just two clicks.

This requires Flame 2025.0.1, the latest version of the software. The SynthEyes exporter for Blender has also been updated, with the specific change noted in the release notes being support for Blender 4.0. The exporter for Silhouette, Boris FX's rotoscoping and painting software, now supports distortion prediction and tracker colors.

The update also introduces a new tool called the "Grid Resize Rectangle" in perspective view mode, which adjusts the position of any face in local coordinates. Boris FX describes it as a quick method for adjusting maps. Among other changes, metadata about focal distance can now be directly loaded from shooting data, and a new script, "Decimate Distortion Keys," is available for handling lens distortion data per frame.

SynthEyes 2024.5 is compatible with Windows 10 and above, RHEL/CentOS 7 and above Linux, and macOS 10.15 and above. The cost of new perpetual licenses is $595. Subscription costs are $49 per month or $295 per year.
