RizomUV 2024.0 by Rizom-Lab

RizomUV has been available under its current brand since 2018 and is a standalone tool for UV unwrapping 3D models and packing the resulting UV parts. It comes in two versions: RizomUV Virtual Spaces (VS) and RizomUV Real Space (RS). Both have similar features, but while VS is designed for games and VFX, RS is intended for product design and works in unnormalized UV space.

Key changes in RizomUV 2024.0 include a new set of tools for creating trim sheets for games, including standard and hybrid trim sheets. With these tools, users can create trim layouts within RizomUV or import them from other software, and associate UV islands from the model with these layouts. UV sections can be placed in the layout manually or using an automatic "hotspot" system, which positions them based on area, shape, aspect ratio, or user-created tags. Layouts can be imported or exported as vector or raster color images in formats such as SVG, PNG, BMP, or TGA, with both square and non-square aspect ratios supported.

In this release, the RizomUV user interface has been significantly revamped, making it simpler and freeing up screen space for the UV layout being created. Many tools have been moved to tabbed panels, and the viewport context menu provides quick access to common operations. Additionally, the user interface now scales correctly on HDPI displays, features new scaling and zooming settings, and supports variable DPI across all operating systems.

Additionally, the Auto Seams tool has been "reworked" and now can read face or vertex normals. The workflow for packing UV parts has also been updated with support for density maps to control the size of the unwrap parts, as well as "more intuitive" scale settings. The update also introduces new options for managing groups and stacks of UV parts, particularly for transformations. RizomUVLink, Rizom-Lab's open-source Python module for controlling the standalone software from a DCC application, is now available for Python 3.11 and 3.12. The module includes numerous minor function and workflow improvements listed in the change log.

Indie licenses of both types are tied to two computers, whereas pro users can rent floating licenses. For RizomUV VS, a perpetual license costs €149.90, and the rental is €14.90 per month. Pro licenses cost €34.90 per month. For RizomUV RS, a perpetual license costs €299.90, and the rental is €29.90 per month. Pro licenses cost €59.90 per month.
