Redshift 3.6.02 has been released
The new NPR (Non-Photorealistic Rendering) system introduced in Redshift 3.6 last month has received several updates: now all light sources must consider the material's influence on lighting. Diffusion and reflection can now be adjusted separately for standard materials, and edge highlighting can also be configured independently for certain types of light sources. The Toon Material itself has gained new options to control whether opacity affects reflection or refraction, and how soft the Toon Rim lighting effect will appear.
Also, it's now possible to control whether contours created using the Contour shader appear in reflections and refractions, as shown in the example above. The Tonemap Pattern node has received a new cross-hatching effect in addition to the existing halftone, sine wave, and grid effects.
Among other new features, Redshift 3.6.02 introduces the Volume Padding parameter, which allows expanding the bounding box of a volume to avoid artifacts when displacing the volume. The Incandescent shader now includes a new Additive Blend option (shown above), suitable for creating additive particle effects.
The Cinema 4D integration now supports a custom Viewport Preview shader, enabling control over material display in the viewport without affecting the final render. Other integration plugins have been updated to support current versions of their respective applications, including 3ds Max 2025, Blender 4.0 and 4.1, and Maya 2025.
Redshift 3.6.02 is compatible with Windows 10 and higher, glibc 2.17 and higher on Linux, and macOS 12.6 and higher. Integration plugins are compatible with 3ds Max 2018, Blender 2.83, Cinema 4D R21, Houdini 17.5 (18.0 on macOS), Katana 4.0v1, and Maya 2018 and higher. The software is available only via subscription, with pricing set at $45 per month or $264 per year.
