Womp is a platform for 3D modeling in the browser
In the alpha version released in 2022, Womp is described as "an easy-to-use application for creating and publishing 3D images," which "allows you to connect, melt, and subtract shapes with each other." For those familiar with more traditional 3D programs, this means real-time boolean modeling with a couple of nice extras, which we'll discuss later. Womp is geared towards non-professionals who want to create graphics for social media or simple models for 3D printing, but it can also be used to explore shapes when developing concepts.
Users create shapes within Womp using 3D primitives - in the beta version, primitives such as cone, torus, and pyramid have been added - and curves, connecting them together using boolean unions or subtractions. The result updates in real-time as you move the original objects in the viewport.
In addition to boolean operations with geometry, Womp blends materials of the original objects, giving the impression that you're pulling along gel or slime. Womp comes with a set of ready-made PBR materials - expanded in the beta version - that can be dragged onto objects. They cover common types of real-world materials, including metal, plastic, glass, rubber, and leather, and paid accounts also provide access to Pro and Super materials. The finished model can be illuminated with up to 16 rectangular, dome, or spherical lights and/or HDRI environments, and rendered at resolutions up to 4K (3840 x 2160px) or as HD video. You can also upload the 3D model for editing in other DCC applications in standard file formats, including OBJ, FBX, USD, glTF, Collada (DAE), STL, and PLY.
Additionally, in the beta version, experimental support for importing existing 3D models as a starting point for work has been added. Supported file formats are similar to those used for exporting files, except for USD, but Blender's native format (.blend) and 3ds Max format (.3ds) have been added. The update also includes a redesigned user interface and improved usability in Womp on iPad, including on-screen Undo and Redo buttons. Pro users have also gained the ability to export 3D models with unified topology.
Womp is compatible with most standard desktop browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Safari. Free accounts include 3D modeling tools and basic materials, as well as support for exporting models in STL and OBJ formats.
Rendering resolution is limited to 4K for still images and HD for video. Pro accounts cost $12.99 per month or $119.88 per year and include advanced features, including Pro and Super materials.
