Twinmotion is available for free to independent artists and studios

It has been announced that Epic Games has introduced new pricing for Twinmotion - real-time visualization software. With the release of Twinmotion 2023.2.4, the commercial version of Twinmotion will become free for artists and studios earning less than one million dollars per year, while for larger studios, it will be available through a subscription for $445 per year. This move is part of a broader series of pricing changes for Epic Games products, including Unreal Engine and RealityCapture, which the company announced last month.

With the release of Twinmotion 2023.2.4, Epic Games has discontinued the old free non-commercial Community Edition and made commercial licenses free for anyone earning less than one million dollars per year. Similar to the Community Edition, free accounts do not include access to the Twinmotion Cloud collaboration platform, but export is no longer limited to 2K resolution.

For students and educators, the old non-commercial Education Edition has also been discontinued in favor of a more general free commercial license. For larger studios, the old perpetual license priced at $749 has been replaced with a subscription costing $445 per seat per year. Twinmotion and RealityCapture are also available as part of the new Unreal Engine subscription priced at $1850 per seat per year - again, only for studios with revenue exceeding one million dollars per year.

Apart from the new pricing, no changes are mentioned in the Twinmotion 2023.2.4 release notes. However, since the release of Twinmotion 2023.2 in October last year, Epic has added several new features to the program, including a chromatic aberration controller in the Ambience panel and the ability to insert Ambience settings between images. Additionally, a new parallax setting for decals has been introduced, improving the depth effect of the surface, and support for Substance 3D procedural materials has been enhanced.

Twinmotion 2023.2.4 is available for Windows 10 and above and macOS 12.5 and above. Integration plugins are available for CAD and DCC applications, including 3ds Max 2017, SketchUp Pro 2019, and Unreal Engine 4.27 and newer versions of the listed software.
