Substance 3D 2.0 for Blender has been released
First released as a beta version in 2021, the Substance 3D addon for Blender converts materials imported in the Substance .sbsar format into editable Blender materials. In addition to custom materials created in Substance 3D Designer, the plugin allows Blender users to access stock materials from online libraries, such as Substance 3D Assets by Adobe.
The 2.0 update marks the first major update for the plugin since its official release last year, although it's mostly an overhaul of the internal code. Adobe has "completely revamped" the plugin to enhance performance and streamline the addition of new features in the future. In the short term, perhaps the most significant change is that the plugin now supports Blender 4.0 - the latest version of the software, and it also comes with detailed tutorial videos, located above.
Other changes, not listed in the release notes but confirmed by Adobe, include support for outputting values and strings, as well as the ability to adjust color depth when outputting textures.
The Substance 3D addon for Blender is compatible with Blender 3.0 and above on Windows, Linux, and macOS. It's free and does not require registration on the Adobe website. To use the plugin, you'll also need to install the Adobe Substance Integration Tool.
