iClone 8.4 is the most significant update, introducing an entirely new set of tools for crowd simulation. Users can distribute crowd characters across a 3D scene using a set of new Scatter tools, allowing actors to appear in specific areas, over objects, or in specified formations.
The movement of characters within the scene can be controlled using a game-style navigation grid or by creating linear trajectories for them using simple "point and click" controls. Built-in flocking and avoidance features regulate how closely the crowd actors approach each other.
To enhance the appearance of crowd characters, users can group them into actor groups with customized material settings. These groups can then be associated with specific movements. To boost performance, characters can be switched to Lite mode, which locks some animation features. Additionally, the toolset supports DDS image compression to reduce loading times.

The iClone Motion Director toolset, enabling semi-automatic character animation through game-style controls, has also received a significant update. Key changes include the ability to blend custom upper body movements with leg motions generated by the Motion Director. Characters controlled by Motion Director now have customizable avoidance parameters. Additionally, the update introduces a new solution to reduce foot sliding, although currently, it's limited to built-in Motion Director packs (iMD).
In Character Creator 4.4, there aren't as many new features. The program now includes HumanIK (HIK) profile on character export to FBX format for use in applications supporting HIK, such as Maya. The content manager search process has been improved: a search history has been added, multi-word search support is available, and there's broader support for custom tags.

iClone 8.4 and Character Creator 4.4 are available for Windows 7 and above. The cost of new perpetual licenses is $299 for Character Creator and $599 for iClone. For existing users, both updates are free of charge.
