Release of Plasticity 1.3

Released in April and dubbed as "CAD for Artists," Plasticity 1.3 is an optimized NURBS modeler. The program aims to be an affordable, artist-friendly alternative to tools like MoI, which the developer cites as a "huge inspiration," and Fusion 360, designed for concept art and industrial design. It features an optimized user interface with reduced screen clutter through context-sensitive widgets and pop-up panels, as well as keybindings and selection modes that should be familiar to Blender users.

Plasticity 1.3 further expands its support for Blender users with the addition of the Blender Bridge, a new feature designed to connect the two applications in real-time. This integration accelerates the development of a model's appearance, allowing users to preview models with suitable materials and lighting in Blender while continuing to work on them in real-time.

Moreover, Blender can be used for geometry editing: "almost all" Plasticity tools are available in Blender, allowing for mesh density adjustments and edge modifications. The workflow has been significantly improved, including a new custom radial menu system for quick access to key settings. By default, two radial menus are provided: one for switching selection modes and another for modifying 3D view settings. Notably, the new Isolate command allows you to select specific objects, hiding the rest of the scene for easier editing.

Additionally, users can open multiple Plasticity windows during kitbashing, enabling copy and paste operations between them, including the precise object location. Plasticity 1.3 includes numerous minor updates, such as STL import.

Plasticity 1.3 is available for Windows 10 and later, Ubuntu 22.04 and later for Linux, and macOS 12.0 and later. It is compatible with both Intel-based and Apple Silicon Mac computers. This update is free for existing users. Perpetual Indie licenses with node-locked activation cost $149 and allow file import and export in OBJ, STEP, and Parasolid XT formats. Studio licenses support a wider range of file formats and are priced at $299. A free trial version is also available, allowing the import of STEP files and export in OBJ format only.
