Goo Engine is like Blender for 3D animation
DillonGoo Studios, founded by former Rooster Teeth animator Dillon Goo, specializes in creating online 3D anime content. Some of their notable works include Demon Slayer CATS, CyberKatsu, and Avatar: The Last CATbender.
Goo Engine (formerly known as Goo Blender) is a custom version of Blender that adds new capabilities to the animation and rendering toolsets. In the initial release, four custom Eevee shader nodes were added for non-photorealistic rendering (NPR), along with support for alpha blending in the Holdout shader, allowing it to be used for semi-transparent objects.
Subsequent updates introduced node-based light groups and the ability to isolate individual F-curves in the Graph Editor.
The latest update of Goo Engine, up to Blender version 3.6, released at the end of last month, introduces new features, including viewport line width control. Additionally, improvements have been made to the Grease Pencil toolset for 2D animation in Blender. These improvements include texture randomization in Grease Pencil strokes and automatic stroke closure. Goo Studio can be compiled for free from the source code, with build requirements similar to Blender itself. However, compiled binary files are only available through a subscription on Patreon from DillonGoo Studios.
Goo Engine is a fork of Blender, and its source code is available under the CNU General Public License. Compiled binary files of Goo Engine are available for Windows and macOS through a subscription to DillonGoo Studios on Patreon, with a current cost of £4.50 per month.
