Goog3D integrates Sketchfab models with Google search

Developer Sylvain Zimmer created Goog3D, a web experiment that combines Google search with 3D models from Sketchfab.

At first glance, Goog3D looks like a standard Google homepage, with the exception of a discreet yellow bar indicating that it is a technical experiment, and a link to the source code on GitHub. Still, the search process is no different from a standard Google search.

However, the block on the right side of the page, that contains information from Wikipedia, now also hosts the Sketchfab viewer window, which displays 3D models from the site.

To view search results, you can use the standard Sketchfab functions, including the ability to rotate or zoom in on 3D models in a web browser or change display options.

Your search query must have a corresponding entry on Wikipedia, and since the search engine works based on the name of the Sketchfab model, the results it returns may be very random.

Despite that, this experiment seems quite entertaining and gives a bit of a feel for the future.
