300 free materials for Unity

Unity has released a free library of the most usable measured materials (Unity Measured Materials Library), to simplify the development of great-looking models focused on automotive vehicles and transportation.

The library contains the most useful materials, including several types of leather and fabrics, opaque and transparent plastic, car paint, chrome, glass, bare metal surfaces with different characteristics and much more.

The new library includes samples of the most popular materials, and with its help it is possible to create a fully prepared variety of consumer products for visualization, including most automotive and transport products.

The following types of materials are included:

  • Fabrics with various weaves including herringbone, twill, brushed and plain
  • Leather including different grain patterns and multiple perforation styles
  • Suede
  • Multiple types of wood
  • Multiple chrome finishes
  • Multiple metal finishes
  • Glass
  • Opaque plastic with multiple grain patterns
  • Transparent plastic
  • Car paint

Compatible with new HDRP for Unity 2018.x

All materials in the library are available for high-definition rendering pipelines (HDRP). Unity also reported on its blog that they will soon provide a lightweight rendering pipeline (LWRP) for use in developing mobile applications.

Shader Graph integration

The new materials support the Shader Graph system, a novelty in Unity 2018.3, which offers previously unavailable levels of control and customization of materials. For example, users can adjust hue, albedo, normal maps, roughness, size of patterns, and much more to get exactly the look they need, in a very easy and intuitive way.
